Notes On Fitting

The notes set here are a guideline only and cover the most common situations. As all fireplaces are unique, special instructions may be needed following a site survey, which is required in all cases where Peace & Plenty are responsible for the fitting.

What you should do:
Before fitting you should make sure of the following:
  • Chimney has been swept and unsuitable caps and cowls and old boiler flues removed.
  • Any necessary electrical work has been carried out, such as moving power points and TV aerial cables from the firehole.
  • Decoration preparation work has been carried out, though not the final decoration.
  • Any replastering work has been done.
  • Arrange for any gas pipe work and for the connection of gas fires to be carried out by a CORGI-registered plumber/gas fire fitter.

What the fitter is responsible for:
  • Removing any existing normal sized fireplace.
  • Making good the plasterwork around the fireplace - up to about 3 inches.
  • Bagging up of rubbish and leaving by dustbins or within customers grounds, removal by the fitter is subject to an extra cost
  • Redecoration, painting, refitting carpets or replacing skirtings are NOT the responsibility of the fitter.
Notes on Gas Fires:
  • Peace & Plenty supply a range of gas coal-effect fires, but we do not offer a connection service.
  • By law, gas fires must be connected and checked by a CORGI-registered gas fire fitter.
  • Have your gas fire serviced annually.
  • If you smell gas, turn off the gas at the mains, do not switch on or off any electrical appliances, ventilate the area and contact the gas supplier.
  • For your added peace of mind, install carbon monoxide detectors in your home. A wide range of these are available and can be supplied by Peace & Plenty.
